Tis’ the season for lights, snow, gifts, hot cocoa, joy, and of course…holiday parties! We’ve got tips to make you the best holiday party host this season.

Pick a theme

While of course, the theme is holiday-focused, take a moment to hone in on a theme that will please all your guests. Is it a family party? Adults only? Work-related?  Start with an assessment of the guest list and figure out a theme that best fits your attendees and their interests, such as a holiday cocktail themed party for adults or cookie/gingerbread house decorating for kids.

Just like Santa…..make a list (and check it twice!)

Create to-do lists as well as a budget and shopping list. Stick to it as best as possible and you’ll feel less stressed! Make sure to delegate tasks if you have anyone supporting your party efforts.

Cook as much ahead of time as possible

Consider recipes for large groups like hearty winter soups or pasta. Or go simple with finger foods and appetizers (and of course, drinks!). Have wine available as well as maybe one special holiday cocktail. Intimidated by cooking for an entire party? Why not consider getting the event catered.

Don’t overdo it on the Christmas music playlist…

We know, how could it be possible to overdo it on Christmas music?? Well if the party is going to be a few hours at least, we recommend throwing in some other classics like jazz or even pop music to mix it up but still keep with the theme. You (and your guests) will be happy not to hear “All I Want for Christmas is You” five times throughout the evening.

Set up a photo booth

Hang a festive backdrop with some flashy holiday props or decor for your guests to take pictures. Provide them with a camera, iPad or encourage people to use their own phones. It’ll be a night they want to remember!
